NPC supplied dry rations, spray machines, washbasins and PPE kits as part of a relief programme funded by Misereor to aid people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in partnership with District Inter Religious Committees (DIRCs) established under the Plural Action for Conflict Transformation project.

Polonnaruwa DIRC distributed dry rations to 70 low-income families in Rathmale and Nikawewa villages who do not receive Samurdhi relief. Their businesses had to be stopped because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions. The programme was conducted with the support of the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat. Polonnaruwa DIRC also distributed handwash basins, liquid sprayers and PPE kits to government institutions in the area including hospitals and the Kandy Urban Council.

Kandy DIRC also distributed dry rations to 70 families who do not receive Samurdhi relief, including flowers sellers near the Temple of the Tooth. The programme was conducted with the participation of government officials and the Kandy District Secretariat.
